I have always been fascinated with the process of transforming raw materials into finished products. How maker can turn raw lumber, metals, fabrics, glass, etc. into beautiful works of art. To create something new that didn’t exist before. Whether it is a piece or furniture, art, or a new tool that solves a problem, making things has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.
Attending the University of Washington’s Architecture and Construction Management Dual Degree program, I was inspired by the amount of design and coordination between all the hands and raw materials involved, how many skilled workers, designers, engineers all put their heart and soul into a project. Working for commercial general contractors, I have been able to see and manage many amazing unique construction projects in the Seattle area.
During my time at UW, I took a furniture design studio. It was at this point I knew this was a passion of mine to take seriously. Working in my free time beyond my “regular” job in construction I began building pieces for friends and family, gradually working up to larger and more complex projects, starting to build a name for myself.
I strive to make every design decision intentional, think about it from all angles, consider how one element affects another and contributes to the whole of the end product. I treat every piece as if it were my own, as if I would be passing it down to my children. Nothing leaves the shop until I am satisfied it will exceed the client’s expectation of design and quality.
